Having last year won the industry's most prestigious award, Morgan Stanley has, again, been voted in Europe by issuers, investors and its peers "Best Investment Bank for Securitisation," as reported in Structured Finance International magazine.
According to voters, "Morgan Stanley have [remained] at the top of the European securitisation industry since the mid-1990s [through] a combination of creativity, thoroughness and long-term thinking." These were the very qualities that characterised all of Morgan Stanley's securitisations in 2000, including ICR Japan One (the assets being a pool of Japanese non-performing loans), Highbury Finance (the assets being supermarkets leased to Sainsbury's) and Arby Franchise Trust (the first-ever securitisation of a U.S. business being, in this case, the Arby's restaurant franchise). It was Morgan Stanley's leadership in pioneering whole-business securitisations that led it to winning several awards for the Arby's transaction, which now opens the path for highly leveraged acquisitions, previously limited to UK corporates, to U.S. clients of the Firm.
Not only was Morgan Stanley bookrunner on more European securitisations than any other bank in 2000, it won as part of these awards "Asset Backed Trading House of the Year." Market sentiment was captured in the words of one voter "In the secondary market they are without doubt number one in Europe. They are miles ahead." Morgan Stanley trades up to $2 billion per month in European securitisations alone, ensuring investors benefit from genuine market liquidity and accurate pricing.
These awards underline not only Morgan Stanley's leadership in international securitisation but its commitment to support issuers and investors long into the future.
