Morgan Stanley Europe was awarded best Institutional Broker/Dealer Performance in
Cross-Border Equities at the Straight Through Processing (STP) Information Services STP
Benchmarks award ceremony in London last week.
Graeme Austin, Managing Director of STP Information Services, presented the award to Morgan
Stanley's David Nicol, Managing Director Equity Infrastructure. The ceremony took place at
London's Dorchester Hotel on May 23.
Morgan Stanley received top honors for recording the highest cash equity cross-border
straight-through processing rate (91%) of any broker during 2000. Straight Through Processing
Benchmarks, an independent London-based organization, presented the award.
The benchmark index measures the degree of automation in all major process steps from execution
reporting through to general ledger posting. Data for the index is submitted by all major brokerage
houses. The cross-border equity category is arguably the most challenging equity category given the
complexity of dealing with clients, markets and clearing/settlement agencies across borders. This
award recognizes the work of numerous teams in Equity Infrastructure, Information Technology and
SPR working toward achieving straight-through processing of cash equities. Morgan Stanley's
competition in this category includes firms such as Merrill Lynch and UBS Warburg.
