In its December 1999/January 2000 issue, Worth magazine takes the "true measure of corporate generosity" and the result is a Worth/Council on Economic Priorities (CEP) first-ever ranking of the most generous companies in America. Worth looks at both the total amount of a company's cash giving and the total amount of profit sharing, calculated as a percentage of pre-tax earnings.
Morgan Stanley makes Worth's "Top Givers" list, with $18,192,420 given in 1998, 0.38% of the Firm's average earnings from 199698 (Source: CEP; Kinder, Lyndenberg, Domini & Co.; Market Guide). Worth writes: "A giant in the financial-services industry, with more than 53,000 employees worldwide, Morgan Stanley raises money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children suffering from incurable diseases. The company also supports programs for at-risk youth."
