In the Institutional Investor 1999 Global Research Team, released in II's December 1999 issue, Morgan Stanley secured the top spot with 22 positions, placing ahead of Goldman (17), Merrill Lynch (15), Warburg Dillon Read (8), and Salomon Smith Barney (7).

Morgan Stanley also earned first place on a weighted average basis with 70 points (assigning a rank of 4 to first teamers, 3 to second teamers, 2 to third teamers, and 1 to runners-up); placing ahead of Goldman (54), Merrill Lynch (35), Warburg Dillon Read (21), and Salomon Smith Barney (19).

In 1998, Institutional Investor's Global Research Team comprised only two equity sectors (banks and pharmaceuticals) and the remainder of the poll consisted of fixed income categories. This year's poll expanded its focus to include 20 equity sectors (26 investment categories in all) with Morgan Stanley sweeping the competition; earning 10 first-team positions, 8 second-team positions, 2 third-team positions, and 2 runners-up positions.

These results demonstrate the unique quality of Morgan Stanley's integrated global approach and the commitment of its Team Leaders to coordinate the global effort.
