Morgan Stanley Receives Four IDD Deal of the Year Awards

Investment Dealers' Digest praises creativity, impact on the market, and size.

In its December 13, 1999 issue, Investment Dealers' Digest (IDD) presents sixteen winners of its 1999 Deals of the Year awards in eighteen categories. Morgan Stanley won awards in the following categories:
  • Energy: TotalFina/Elf Aquitaine
Morgan Stanley; Credit Suisse First Boston; Merrill Lynch; Paribas; Lazard Freres; Goldman Sachs

  • Healthcare: Hoechst AG/Rhone-Poulenc SA
Morgan Stanley; Lazard Freres; J.P. Morgan; Goldman Sachs; Rothschild & Cie

  • IPO: UPS
    Morgan Stanley

  • Telecom: Vodafone/Airtouch
    Morgan Stanley; Goldman Sachs
The winners were chosen from nominations submitted from the investment banking community and judged by Investment Dealers' Digest's editors and reporters. IDD writes, "the numbers are merely indicators of trends, and what we were after in each category was less a trend-setter than the deal that most challenged bankers, that required skills that perhaps even they didn't know they possess. … What we rewarded were creativity, impact on the market and size, pretty much in that order."

The winners of the remaining two categories, Investment Bank of the Year and Banker of the Year, will be announced at IDD's second annual awards reception in New York on January 19, 2000.
